Enjoying Air Rewards With American Express Blue Sky

By Cornelius Nunev

Having airline reservations? Try American Express Blue Sky. It's not your standard frequent flier card, but it does offer big-time rewards for domestic travelers.

A card to provide you with points

The American Express Blue Sky Preferred credit card is nice for many people because it earns 1.33 cents for every dollar spent. That is increased to 2.66 cents at restaurants, hotels or vehicle rentals.

The American Express Blue Sky is better than frequent flyer cards because brand new cardholders can generate 15,000 points after the first $1,000 spent in the first three months. A person makes about $200 with the sign-up bonus, and every point may be worth about 1.33 or 2.66 cents. Cardholders can even get a $100 statement credit for travel expenses after getting 7,500 extra points.

Airline allowance

WiseBread explained that AMEX Sky Preferred cardholders get zero percent APR on the first 12 months of new purchases and then a 17.24 percent to 22.24 percent variable rate after that.

There's also an annual airline allowance that appears as a statement credit of up to $100. This applies to incidental airline charges like baggage charges, in-flight food and entertainment. Travel accident insurance - with benefits for death or dismemberment - are also provided by AMEX.

The card offers extended warranty coverage on top of manufacturer's warranties, and cardholders can get up to $300 per item in a refund if the retailers will not take back a purchase within 90 days. There is a $1,000 annual cap on the item though.

Take advantage

Try out Blue Sky in case you are traveling a lot in the nation. It is worth it at only a $75 yearly fee. It does charge 2.7 percent on foreign transactions, so you might want to avoid using it out of the country.
