Why Maintaining Tower Crane Inspections Is Fundamental

By Kendra Hood

Most states and nations are appreciating the use of the tallest structures and buildings in their regions. The projects of building big buildings are increasing. The greatest challenge that builders and laborers face when constructing them is transportation of materials from the ground level to the upper zones. To make work easy, people prefer to use tower cranes while erecting such structures. For this reason, tower crane inspections are essential to complete projects.

Just like other devices and machines in the construction site, cranes may develop problems and fail to work. When these cranes fail to work for a day or two, the construction work halts and this could be a great loss to the building owner. Instead of waiting until the cranes are defective, the construction engineers on site facilitate the inspection of these cranes to avoid major hindrances.

You would note that the things that cranes lift from the ground to the top parts of the buildings are the heaviest. People on the construction site would not be able to lift them however much they would be willing to do so. Some of the iron bars that construct these buildings are heavy for any human being to lift. The cranes would easily lift the concrete, metals and other materials.

Additionally, it is good to mention that the cranes are crucial in lifting people who are working on the site to do some tasks on the top parts of the building. It would be time consuming if workers would have to walk through the stairs to the top area of the house. However, the cranes are able to lift and support workers especially when doing the wiring task or when roofing.

The general point is that without inspection of these cranes, they may develop problems that would later affect the entire construction work. This is the reason why inspectors carry out their inspection task occasionally. One of the things that the inspectors would check on these cranes is if the thimbles, pins, pendant lines, slewing rings, rollers, tracks, and cable clips are in good condition.

Inspection of the cranes may also involve proper lubrication. This is a crucial aspect since the cranes have numerous joints that require lubrication. When these joints run dry, it would not be possible for the cranes to lift ant heavy object. Lubrication is crucial especially during winter and rainy seasons since chemical reactions that cause rusting are common. The inspectors also know the right lubricants to use for durability purposes.

When hiring inspectors, you should make sure that you are hiring experts who understand how these cranes operate. This means that they should have background knowledge concerning the different components of the cranes and their functions. It would be frustrating and dangerous to hiring people with no experience with these devices. They may not be able to detect some of the problems that would later cause loss of lives on the construction site.

You should not assume or underrate the aspect of verifying the validity of their insurance. Hiring inspectors who are not insured to inspect the cranes is risky. If anything injurious or worse happens to the on the site, you would be held accountable. Paying their medical bills would be hectic and strenuous to you.
